Spirit Lead Church in Kansas City || The Preacher, The Church & Jesus

< Back to Blog

We, as a church, believe in the power of the Holy Spirit. Therefore, we are and always will be a Spirit Lead Church in Kansas City.

The minute we start to think that we can do anything on our own or in our own power, we are in trouble. The Spirit of God leads us and teaches us to walk like Jesus and as a Spirit Lead Church in Kansas City, that is always who we want to emulate.

Last time I blogged about the role of a preacher in building a church on fire.  This week I want to focus on the church, or rather the congregation.

Let me begin by saying that God’s people are to walk in power.  You are not weak or pitiful.

You are a force.

Many people look to the man of God to bring revival in a briefcase.  There is this myth that the man of God will bring the perfect word that will change everything.  But let me bring a revelation here.  There are no perfect preachers.

What is the second element to a fired up church?  It’s simple.  It’s the congregation.

People of God you have the blood of Jesus, the Word of God, and the Holy Ghost.  If you are mature you don’t need to wait on a preacher.  You can fire yourself up!

How you show up to church affects what you will get out of the service.

…But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own town and in his own home.”  And he did not do many miracles there because of their lack of faith.  Matt 13:57-58

Here we see that even Jesus could not do much for a people who come to a service without faith that God will move.

I’ve seen people come expectant and excited because a special speaker was coming.  But let an assistant pastor take the microphone and those same people are critiquing the message or falling asleep.

There are two things the people can do to bring the best or worst out of the preacher.  You can come hungry to hear God’s Word or you can check out the second the preaching begins.

Are you getting up to go to the bathroom, playing on your phone, or letting your children make noise during service?  Is your mind wandering, are you daydreaming about food or the new single in church?

Or did you come hungry to hear God’s Word?  Do you want His presence?  Are you at the edge of your seat hoping for just one Word that you know came directly from the Lord?

Folks your altitude is determined by your attitude. When we are all present before God we can experience His power and His glory and be changed or we can walk out of service the same way we came in having never encountered Jesus.

Pray this,

Jesus please help us, your people, to come before you in reverent expectation.  Let us believe you still speak, you still work miracles, and you still manifest your presence.  Let us come before you, as little children, in awe of who you are.  We long to hang on to your every Word again Father.  Make us Your ministers of Fire!  In the name of Jesus. Amen.
